As I had anticipated, there was no shortage of rubbish in Rhodes. I had decided to organise a clean up there after visiting a few weeks before and being very disappointed by the rubbish problem there. Our bags filled up extremely quickly, 16 bags in less than 90 minutes.
We had around 15 volunteers join us, both regulars and new volunteers. Together, we represented Australia, Japan, China and Germany!
We also caught the attention of someone connected to the local council, who’s offered to help promote our work and use our event photos to advocate for more support in keeping the area clean.
At the end of the day, clean streets equal clearer minds and hearts of the locals. I hope our work made some locals litterers rethink their habits!

先週末新しいところで活動してみました！予想通り、たくさんのゴミが落ちていました。オーストラリア、中国、日本、そしてドイツを代表しているボランティアさんのゴミ袋はあっという間にいっぱいになりました。
今回の清掃場所は人通りが多く、たくさんの方々が私たちの活動を目にできました。また、活動中に地元の自治体とつながりのある方に声をかけてもらって、写真を使って市に報告すると約束してくれました。地域をもっときれいにするための後押しになりそうで、励みになりました！
地元人の心まで綺麗にしてくれるパワーのあるこの活動はやはりとても意味のあることだと思えた日曜日でした。
次回また市内に戻って活動します。今月の17日にお時間があったら、是非一緒にお掃除しましょう！
