日本語↓ After days of grey skies and drizzle, we were lucky to have one sunny day — and we made the most of it with another clean-up! This time, we were joined by enthusiastic students from the UTS University Japanese Club (JASS).

We began in the Central Park area which was not as dirty as we expected. After a relatively quick clean-up there, we made our way toward Chinatown, where we found plenty of rubbish — a clear reminder that litter remains a persistent issue in many parts of the city.

One of the most encouraging moments was seeing members of the public take notice. Several people stopped to snap photos, ask questions, and even followed us on social media during the clean-up.

Our goal is not only to clean up the streets, but also to raise awareness. It’s not just about what we pick up on the day — it’s about showing how much waste ends up in our streets, and eventually our waterways and ecosystems, unless we take action.

曇りや雨の日が続く中、ようやく訪れた晴れの日に。また街のゴミ拾い活動を行いました。今回は、UTS大学の日本文化サークルの学生たちが参加してくれました。セントラルパーク周辺からスタートしましたが、それほどゴミは多くなかったから、チャイナタウン方面に向かいながら清掃活動をしました。

私たちの活動に気づいてくれた通行人の方々が何人もいて、写真を撮ったり、声をかけてくれたり、SNSでフォローしてくださる方もいました。私たちの目的は、単に街をきれいにすることだけじゃなくて、ごみ問題への意識を高めることなので、このように注目を集める時は嬉しいです。今回拾ったゴミはほんの一部にすぎませんが、放っておけば、いずれ自然の生態系に流れ込んでしまうからこそ、少しでも役に立ったなら良かったと思います。

参加してくださった皆さん、特にUTSの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。これからもこの活動を広げていきましょう。
