This month, we returned to Macquarie Park to clean up for the second time! The weather was beautiful, and the amount of rubbish we discovered relatively expected. What I didn’t expect however, was some unfriendly people, including a driver who beeped angrily for our volunteers to cross the road quickly, and a man who told us to leave the area. While these incidents are certainly upsetting, I am reminded that the overwhelming majority of people comment positively on our activities, and appreciate what we are doing. So I’ll choose to focus on those people! It really is a shame how neglected some of the local streets are. I can’t help but wonder why the council @cityofryde focuses only on surface cleans, and doesn’t think about how microplastics in our ecosystem are affecting both humans and animals alike. Of course, it is the public that needs to change too. I can only hope that by seeing our activities, people reconsider their actions when throwing away rubbish. As usual, thank you to all of the volunteers who turned up on their Sunday to help out -some coming from very far away to participate. You are appreciated, and are the hope for our earth’s future.
